New drill: "The SIMO Bill"

Find a buddy and a BULLIT company that you can run a simo Bill with and walk away smiling. Goal is to synchronize the ending and still run it sub 2.0s.

It took 4 attempts to synchronize a 1.66 with only 6 shots showing on the timer - so I think we got lucky, but this was pretty fun!!

+rep to @hotsauce_mike for exchanging at least a hundred airsoft BB's to the fingers before this video. All for the community science project coming down the pipe in a few months 👨‍🔬

Thanks @fhmunition for keeping us sharp 🫶
Understanding my own drill.

I originally thought the Trials were a lesson of focus and being entirely in the moment to make the shots. Of course, this is an element of it, but you could be entirely focused and still lack the required abilities to guarantee the result.

Performing "on-demand" means you need to know your own abilities and limitations. With this thoroughly honest self-awareness you can then look at a shooting problem and guarantee a solution.

The unfortunate thing in reality is we don't know what the shooting problem will be, which means the solution required may be outside the realm of our guarantee to solve it. Pushing our guarantee to the highest level possible takes a whole lot of work before the day it is required, because you can't just grit through a difficult hostage rescue shot on your willpower alone.

Knowing your guarantee will bring a reduction of tension, increase in focus and go a long way with actually delivering the performance you want.

If you've run the Trials, what did you learn from them?

Please join me in a dangerous discussion of muzzle orientation and winning the death race.

Our simple mitigation strategies to avoid being dead:
- avoid the g∆nfight
- create distance
- minimize exposure with cover or concealment
- aim your gun if it is out

This isn't a perfect test and we've still got a Part IV to answer a few more questions, but we're finding some consistent results across the board. Three different sh00ters and similar depressing results. We're very k1llable.

We can do everything right and an inexperienced sh00ter can still put a b∆llet right between our eyes 10% of the time (based on this limited super scientific testing).

As we've seen with recent videos, some guys are adjusting the priority of life and moving risk from themselves onto others. Some are negating the f1re@rms safety guidelines.

What else can you do?

Confession bear.

I've never scored an 100 on the B8.

Not even once.

Yes, I know that instagram shooters are suppose to put up 100's on demand. Well...

This morning I dropped in to the lame range and decided to dump 100 rounds at the B8. Scores from 88 to 98 and everywhere in between. An 100 has eluded me yet again.

I'm gonna put some focused effort into it this month (and maybe 1 click left) to see if I can fix that, because I won't be able to film at any ranges that allow fun for a bit.

I'll also throw this question to the crowd:

How often do you think a shooter should focus strictly on marksmanship with no time pressure?
Hear me out... And voice out if I've got this wrong.

With this training system gaining popularity, and people spending a significant portion of their dryfire on it as opposed to their real gun... It's time to spill a few of the beans with a reminder to not believe everything you see.

This system is what you make of it. It can be a solid training aid, or it can be an addicting game that acts as a good reminder to get some dryfire in on your actual gun. If you're using it as a game, then a game it will be, and in that manner, don't expect it to provide alot of value outside of entertainment.

It can also be both, but we don't want to mislead the guys trying to build their foundation as good shooters by blurring the line. If experienced guys market it as the most realistic training simulator, but quietly use it as a game to get their name to the top, then we aren't being responsible with our message.

Very few can run 0.09 splits in reality, nor run @timherronshooting 's bill drill sub 1 in the credit card. But if we play the game, we can do both. This is something that we would rarely deceive ourselves with in real dryfire because it has the serious detriment of degrading the long fought connection built between honest dryfire and the confidence to replicate it in livefire.

Many people starting out in this sport or armed profession are purchasing training aids to save on ammo and create a good foundation of skill. This one can be a ton of fun as a game and also a serious trainer, but as responsible, experienced shooters we have to help the new guys out and let them know when we are blurring those lines. They are looking up to guys like us for recommendations of how to improve and integrity in training is one of those things.

I'm sorry to break the magicians code 😔🤷

The history:

About 7 years ago I was prepping to take a shot on a hostage taker in a training scenario when the instructors called a stop. A hostage rescue shot wasn't the solution they wanted in this scenario. I was asked if I knew the ramifications of this decision and was confident in my shot placement. I explained what I thought at the time and said I would have confidently made the shot. They didn't like that.

So, I took my lumps and felt like a moron all week. On the weekend, I decided I would determine for myself if the decision to take the shot was the right one. I drafted up a significantly harder target than what was presented and planned to draw and take the shot under a similar time pressure. If I could do it 10 times in a row then I would be vindicated.

Well, I shot it 7 times clean and on the 8th run I sent a round right into the hostage....guess they were right.

To conclude - my confidence was shattered and my training changed for the better. The intent or confidence in the shot doesn't matter, only the results do.

This drill has undergone a few small changes over the years and I eventually added a run up with inspiration from Seattle SWAT's performance.

I've found a ton of value in this drill and I hope you guys do too.

You can print the targets on the website in my bio 🫡

Let me know what you think!
