The illusion of control.

Empty hands bring comfort. Comfort can bring complacency. Complacency can kill.

LEOKA stats have shown that attacks happen so fast that 64% of officers were unable to even fire their weapon before being killed. With the average retention draw occuring in 1.5 seconds, this means the attack was likely completed within that time period. Can you fire an accurate round or gain physical control in less than 1.5 seconds?

Not every situation can be won. However, in many cases it is possible to minimize the poor decisions that led to the unwinnable situation.

Change my mind: The grip might be one of the most over-complicated parts of shooting.

Notice that this is titled "a grip" not "the grip", and it is an intentionally vague description of setting up a grip on a pistol.

Every grip is unique, but every good grip follows most of these principles.

After that, there are a lot of ways to tweak the grip to adjust shot placement, trigger control for marksmanship or speed, natural point of aim, etc, but Ive found that I have fallen victim to spending a huge amount of time adjusting a good grip to a "perfect" grip, just to find in the end that I was simply being lazy with my hand pressure again.

That hand pressure is less about pushing the gun back down from recoil, and more about providing an anchor for the gun to return to quicker and more predictively.

It`s less important whether we apply pressure further forward like Vogel, or downwards on a gas pedal, or inwards like a vice, with a 60/40 support hand ratio, or all the above - but more important that it creates a solid platform for the individual shooter`s hands to mash the trigger and have predictable recoil.
